A few clowns short of a circus?

Judge Tom O'Donnell has been nominated by the Government for appointment to the Circus Court, er Circuit Court :) Tom had been on perch in the District Court for nigh on 12 years. Twas only recently that a brazen article, namely John Dundon created a bit of a fracas down there and referred to Tom as a 'clown'.

John and his brother Wayne were accused of threatening to kill two female individuals at a house on Hyde Road in April of this year *cough* , one of those individuals being the ex girlfirend of Ger Dundon. April Collins, called the Gardai to notifiy them of the threats and made a detailed statement.

April dumped Ger Dundon for a convicted rapist, Thomas O'Neill , and it seems poor aul Ger couldn't accept this and move on. He is 'alleged ' to be heartbroken. O'Neill himself was recently charged with threatening to kill a father and son earlier this month. It is alleged that Wayne and John then issued a chilling death threat to the ex. Ger himself was given a five year prison sentence earlier this year for trying to extort money from Mark Heffernan. The gangster's moll, a classy bird?! *cough* was charged last year with intimidating a witness in a major investigation into crime in Limerick City. She followed a woman (who is a relative of Mark Heffernan) into Penneys, where the alleged incident took place. For better or worse eh.... April and Ger were due to be married last April. April admitted intimidating said woman.

but... she avoided a prison sentence for threatening a potential witness in May this year after the Judge was told that she was 'under the influence of members of an organised criminal gang' and the Judge was told that she has since 'broken all ties' with said gang.

Gardai gave evidence on April's behalf that she was an impressionable woman and easily influenced...... *cough*. Judge Carol Moron then gave April a three year suspended sentence.

This was in response to a recent announcement by the new Garda Commissioner, Martin Callinan, that the budget for tackling organised crime will be cut more than half. Operation Anvil will be cut from €21m to €10m. Superintendent Frank No Brain *cough* doesn't see it as a problem at all at all! Sure why would he? they failed to tackle anything in the first instance! And, Martin Callinan, who not so long ago pledged to clean up Limerick and sort out the escalating crime problems...

It gets my goat when people like this talk shite...

It was only last December that Superintendent David Sheehan announced that there would be more donuts to go round :)

It is 'alleged' that over the past number of years, that there are in excess of 600 Gardai now based on Limerick.

Now that the Department of Justice are on a budget *cough*, it is anticipated that the number of Gardai are expected to drop significantly countrywide in 2011. However, Chief Super David Sheehan maintains that Limerick won't be affected...... (not that anyone would notice anyway!!)

I guess that means there will be more donuts to go round! The ring of power eh :)

It was just a few months ago that 67 convicted criminals were released .   Dean Barry (a convicted rapist) was one such criminal released in February..... He barely served 5 years of a 9 year sentence.

In September he pleaded guilty to assault on July 9th this year (not too long after his 'early' release!)

"Arising out of the incident on July 9 last, the accused also faced public order charges for his “violent outburst in the garda station”. Barry was alleged to have headbutted a door and was re-arrested and restrained after his initial release" via Limerick Post

Barry has 32 previous convictions including public order offences, assault, false imprisonment, and theft.

He was involved in the  horrific gang rape and brutal attack in Cratloe Woods in 2004 and received a ten year sentence, with the final year suspended. He was sixteen at the time.   Those involved (Thomas O'Neill 16, Darragh Ryan 16, Jason Ring 14 and Stephen Barry 24) were armed with screwdrivers, a wheel brace and a shovel. They have over 100 previous convictions between them. They took turns raping the woman, and assaulting and locking her boyfriend in the boot of a car and assaulting him with golf clubs. They shouted   "we’re riding your bird" as the woman was repeatedly raped.   Dean Barry was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

"The courtroom was strained with tension. Among those listening to the woman's words were the four teenage boys who had serially raped her after locking her boyfriend in the boot of his car at four o'clock on a January morning in Cratloe Woods, Co Clare" via Independent.

"Supt John Kerin, who led the investigation said he had never come across a case of such violence in his 27 years service.“The acts perpetrated on both victims were unbelievable,” he said." - via The Clare People

Barry had the last year of his sentence suspended and was given early  release .

Barry (now 22) was back before the Court again last week for failing to notify Gardai of where he was living, which is compulsory for those on the Sex Offenders Register. He was arrested in a more than inebriated state. He was also before the court on public order offences that occurred the 4th of November. He was sentenced to four months by Judge Tom O'Donnell

Four months....... I think that says it all doesn't it!!

Vicky Griffin from O'Malley Park, Southill was handed down a two year suspended sentence earlier today for possession of a double barrell sawn off shot gun and a 22 caliber rifle in her attic. She had pleaded guilty to the crime.

Her house was searched back in 2007 where the guns were discovered. She told the Gardai that she was aware there was something in her attic. She apparently told them 'I saw it when I was taking down the Christmas tree' and 'you don't say no to these people'.

According to the Garda that was involved in the search of her house and questioning afterwards, and who also gave evidence earlier, he said that she was in fear of her life and was under threat from 'evil and sinister people' who forced her to store the guns in her attic. She would not divulge to Gardai the name of the individual who placed the guns in the attic. This particular member of An Garda Siochana praised her for being a good mother, said she maintained a good house and her house was in good order. What the feck that has to do with the fact that she allowed the storage of firearms in her attic is beyond me!! She has two children, and obviously wasn't too concerned for their welfare and safety, allowing dangerous weapons like that in the household.

The court was told that she was not on the Garda radar 'so it was a convenient safehouse for the storage of the weapons'........ yet somehow, somewhere along the line, she did come into Garda radar, considering there was a raid and search on her house! Brian McInerney for the Defence maintained 'wicked, evil and sinister people would have inflicted serious if not lethal harm had she refused.'

It was mentioned that she had two previous convictions, but these were very quickly brushed over and quickly described as minor. Vicky was not questioned during court today, all converstation and talking was conducted by Counsel, and a member of an Garda Siochana sided 100% with her story.

Judge Carroll Moran maintained it would be unjust to impose an immediate custodial sentence and suspended a two year sentence for two years.

It was observed by a number of people afterwards that a very conspicuous handshake was undertaken between Vicky Griffin and said Garda!

So there you go folks..... another laughable lack of sentence handed down in Limerick. Aint it grand to be on the good side of the Gardai and have them sound your praises in court! Reminds me of the case of Hanora Ryan a while back.. She received a four year suspended sentence for possession of over €60,000 worth of drugs in her bedroom wardrobe and she also had a member of an Garda Siochana, a Detective, sound her praises, when he heard that Hanora could possibly be involved.

It's not a justice system, it's just a system.

Gardai are investiging a shooting in St. Mary's Park in the wee hours of this morning. The injured party is alleged to have been shot in the back and taken to the Regional, but later discharged.

It now transpires that it was one Liam 'Baby' Kelly Liam 'Baby' Kelly , who was due to appear in court today in relation sentencing for possession of heroin.  Baby's Doctor appeared on his behalf claiming Baby had been shot and assaulted and claiming he was unfit to attend court. Baby is the brother of Aidan Kelly who was shot 2006.

It was only in March of this year!! that  Baby   and Robert Crawford pleaded guilty to a break in at Newcastlewest Autos and received six month sentences.

Baby has a bit of a history...

In 2007 he was sentenced to three months for failing to stop for the Gardai , he was shot at three times, and was involved in a bit of a fracas and accused of shooting Ian Brennan. He went forward for trial in 2008 in relation to the Brennan incident, for possession of a shotgun and attempt to endanger life. It was alleged Baby and Brennan argued over a girl, Baby's girlfriend (Leanne Campbell McNamara) , who was seemingly involved with both of them. Brennan gave evidence to say he was shot in the back and in the stomach by Baby. Not the first time there was an attempt on Brennan's life  .

Ian Brennan had been out socialising with his friends Philip Collopy and Brian Scanlon. Brennan said he was 110% certain it was Baby. The jury failed to reach a verdict after three days and in 2009 he was up before the court again. Philip Collopy gave evidence stating ' sure I get shot at every week". Collopy, Brennan's friend stated the g unman's face was covered. Baby was acquitted. Collopy accidentally shot himself a couple of months later.

Outbreak

The virus is spreading   .........

In recent weeks residents in various estates around Limerick have started to voice their opinions and fears in relation to an ongoing campaign of intimidation and harassment by individuals housed in said estates by the local Council. Some of the sheisters causing all the trouble are as young as 8 and 9 years old and this has been going on for nearly a decade, with primary focus this week on Fairview Crescent, Garryowen .

Residents are living in fear and with some fleeing said estates due to fears for their safety. It is alleged that over 15 families have fled Fairview Crescent due to threats and intimidation.

Despite numerous complaints to the Council about the anti social behaviour in these estates, nothing constructive seems to have been done thus far.

Castletroy, Raheen, Dooradoyle and areas in County Limerick seem to be the worst hit in this situation. It is alleged the Council are buying up houses   in these areas, right, left and centre! It seems the ongoing problem has now become widespread, rather than confined to one particular area.

Twelve orders of repossession have come before the courts. Another 58 tenants voluntarily surrendered their homes after numerous complaints were made against them. A total of 69 homes have been taken back.   via Independent

The Counicl are 'sticking' families in to various estates around the City and people in these estates are at a loss as to who will be stuck alongside them next,

"They seem to be pushing the undesirables out, that nobody wants and nobody has control over," chairman of the Russell Court Residents' Association in Ballykeeffe, Mike Cussen, told the Irish Independent.

"There are anti-social problems everywhere now and the virus has spread. They will stick anyone in on top of you. No one is taking control of the situation," he added.

And what do the local Gardai seem to be doing to combat same?
That's what I'd like to know!

Lack of regulations....

A former Garda, Denis Kelly, originally based in Henry Street in Limerick, and who served three years of a five year sentence for leaking information to the IRA in 1992, and John Quinn, an IRA gang member involved in the death of Detective Garda Jerry McCabe in 1996 and who served six years for conspiracy to robbery in Adare, Co, Limerick, have set up a debt collection agency, Global Debt Collection Agency. They are registered as directors of the company based in Faha, Co. Limerick.

It seems to be the new business venture for ex prisoners since the onset of the recession! Only last month several individuals were arrested in Dublin following the Garda's organised crime units investigations into criminals involvement in debt collection. One of the first such agencies was the Viper Debt Recovery and Repossession Services, set up by Martin Foley, an associate of Martin Cahill. The Law Reform Commission recommended the regulation of debt collection agencies earlier this year.

Denis Kelly was sentenced to five years back in 1992 after leaking information to the IRA about impending Garda raids. He was caught red handed, taking information from a confidential fax, ordering swoops on IRA arms dumps. He was followed to a phone box by Detectives where he was just in the process of phoning IRA contacts and passing on the information. John Quinn was known as the 'gopher' and 'messenger boy' in 1996 when Detective McCabe was murdered and Ben O'Sullivan, his colleague, seriously injured. Quinn pleaded guilty to conspiracy.

Pleb of the week....

Sergeant Cathal O'Neill came out with this beaut during the week, at Limerick District Court.

There is an apparent ongoing feud *cough* between two parties on the south side of Limerick and he expressed his fear, that this could result in injury. I mean, it doesn't take an ejit to figure that one out now does it!

Files are being prepared on those involved in the feuding factions. The two accused Jonathan Colbert and Christopher Clancy were refused bail and shouted profanities at Judge Olann Kelleher who remanded them in custody until the 1st of September. They were charged in connection with an incident in Weston where it is alleged that two individuals armed with a stick and wheelbrace (sure where would you be going like!) caused criminal damage to a house. There was also an incident on Ellen Street. Gardai have linked the alleged incident to an ongoing dispute.

Lets rewind to that 'massive swoop' back in 2008, the one that was organised the 'day before' *cough*.... the one that left 'no stone unturned'.... the one that Willie Keane said was the 'biggest in the state in a long time'

The one where, according to Willie Keane.... "a culmination of many months work initiated by our assets profilers based locally here in Limerick who profiled the various criminal gangs and criminal elements in the city"

The one where... they apparently searched and raided over 150 homes and commercial premises (Accountancy and Solicitors firms).... (and I use the word 'raid' and 'search' lightly! as it was observed on most of the searches *cough* one plain clothes detective calmly walked into one or two commercial premises and politely asked for files).

And, at the time, Willie O (newly reappointed Minister of Defence at the time) confirmed that members of CAB were preparing to seize houses and other property from known criminals who cannot explain their wealth. "Over the past twelve months CAB have been carrying out a huge investigation into property in Limerick and they have compiled a list of properties where there is no explanation as to how the owners accumulated the money to pay for them,"

Has anything changed in the last two years? Nada! and they are still blowing their own trumpets!

An amount of cash, computers and apparently, documentary evidence, were seized when a number of premises in Limerick, Dublin, Offaly, Kerry and Tipperary were raided during the week by the Criminal Assets Bureau, apparently as part of the usual 'ongoing' investigation into gangland activities in Limerick.

No arrests made..... but the matter will continue to be scrutinised.

An individual in their 20s was arrested and questioned, Under Section 30 of the Offences agains the State Act, following a handgun seizure in Ballysheedy yesterday, apparently in connection with an ongoing Limerick fued. The seizure was described as 'significant'......

The weapon, believed to be a high-power pistol was recovered in the Ballysheedy area during an intelligence-led operation targeting serious criminal activity in the city - via Irish Times

Giving the finger..

Ger Dundon (along with Terrance McNamara, Christopher McCormack and David McCormack) appeared before Tom O'Donnell at the District Court via video link yesterday. Dundon had his face half covered with a bandana when the O'Donnell ordered the link turned off, after Dundon made a rude gesture with his middle finger. The video link is the new fan dangled technology installed in the court house last year (that only works half the time!).

O'Donnell said that he wasn't going to stand for a 'performance like that' and said it was 'uncalled for and unnecessary'. He told Dundon that he would be treated with respect if he showed respect to the court.

Dundon has been in custody for 86 days in relation to a violent disorder charge in February of this year. The book of evidence was not produced yesterday but Michael Murray State Solicitor advised the court that it was ready and O'Donnell then proceeded to adjourn the case back to Friday so that documents could be served (isn't there a lot of pissing about with this case?!?!) and a return for trial date fixed (puting it on the 'long finger' cough)

If somebody is mildly angry, they might just give the middle finger. If they’re very angry, they might give it with some sort of words or facial expression that shows anger. And if they’re off-the-charts angry, they may give a double....

What a 'cop' out, but predictable by the DPP.

Gardaí have completed their extensive (my arse!) *cough* investigation, and as a result the DPP have decided that Willie O has no case to answer.

The DPP is not going to prosecute Willie O in relation to the sworn affidavit he made, that inevitably led to his demise from Government.

The whole shebang centred around the infamous 'brothelgate' wherein he allegedly made false allegations that Maurice Quinlivan, Sinn Fein, had links to a brothel in Limerick.

I wonder what would have happened if Willie O had remembered the name of that Gard! now there's the burning question!

Willie O said he had been informed by a Senior Garda Officer of the decision.

“The allegation was one of perjury, which means I deliberately and knowingly gave an untrue version of accounts in an affidavit. I knew I hadn’t done that" via Irish Times

Up to 20 Gardai tried to break up a late night riot, involving over a dozen travellers, most of whom were from Limerick! at Magee Barracks site (owned by the Department of Defence, now derelict) in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Gardai were deployed from Kildare, Newbridge and Naas. Sticks, hurleys and iron bars were drawn and bottles flung at Garda cars, and it was apparently necessary for the Gardai to use their batons, although no serious injuries were reported.

Only two individuals were detained and they are due to appear before Kildare DC July 22nd next.

A riot is the language of the unheard....

Four flower selling Romanian women, from Tipperary and Athlone, received a three month sentence, suspended for one year, for stealing an inebriated mans wallet whilst he lay slumped and distracted on the street, in the early hours of last Saturday morning. They pleaded guilty to the charges of theft. One of the Romanian women has previous convictions for theft. It was alleged that three of them surrounded the inebriated man while one of them stood watch and acted as a look out.

Their legal advisor, Sarah Ryan Solicitor, acknowledged that these women took advantage of this man but claimed that the inebriated man had initially handed them some change when his wallet fell to the ground and they apparently picked it up!

Tom O'Donnell wanted to know what they were doing on the streets of Limerick when they were based in Tipperary and Athlone, to which Sarah Ryan replied..........(this has to be quote of the week!)....

It was not too long ago, only last week in fact, that two other Romanian woman were before the court for prositution. Plain clothes Gardai watched (sure aren't they doing a lot of watching these days! *cough*) the women for a period of time as they approached cars. They were arrested and their defence was that they were unable to find work and had children to fend for. They pleaded guilty and O'Donnell remanded the matter to the 13th of October, stating that the matter would be struck out if there were no further charges.

The Roman Vysochan murder trial had to be moved from Limerick to Tipperary earlier today, due to the 'required facilities not being available in Limerick'!. Remote video evidence/testimony from a witness was required in the case.

The jury will be transported by bus to Nenagh Courthouse to hear the video evidence.

First up, we had the muppets ....

A Dean Martin (no not that one!) was up before Tom O'Donnell at Limerick District Court. He was cleared of calling a Garda Denise Haverty from Henry Street a parrot back in April, whilst she and a colleague were trying to arrest a drunk individual on Cruises Street. Apparently there was a bit of an altercation on Cruise's Street and he was accused of threatening behaviour.

Havery alleged that Dean Martin stuck his ore in and said "Do you have a problem?" She then alleged that she walked towards him and he then became abusive towards her. She apparently asked him for his name a couple of times, to which his reply was.....

"Are you a parrot?"

(oh this just cracks me up! I can just picture that scene now!)

She alleged, that he also alleged that "Frank Sinatra" was standing beside him!

Dean Martin denied the allegations and maintained that he was joking when referring to Frank Sinatra.

"It was a joke, some guards can take a joke and I didn't know she wasn't going to be able to take a joke,"

He admitted that he had stared at the gardai while they were trying to arrest the inebriated individual but insisted that he didn't use bad language or become abusive during the incident.

Tom O'Donnell dismissed the charge saying..

"I would have to have some slight doubt, it was smart and cheeky but it was not criminal in my view."

and his advise to Dean Martin....

"My advice to you would be to give a civil answer when you are stopped by the Guards from now on."

Seriously though, what an effin waste of taxpayers moola eh, to bring something like that to court!!! Jazus some Gardai get their nickers in a twist over nothing! and it's probably the poor craters on the street drunk, not harming anyone, that will end up behind bars, and not the scum running around stabbing and shooting and threatening people!

Seamus Ruane, Inspector in the Disctrict Court in reply to Ted McCarthy Solicitor.

The Collopy Brothers (Kieran and Damien) who are accused of tresspassing and threatening to kill an individual April last, will stand trial at Limerick Circuit Court following directions from the DPP. They are also facing an additional charge of demanding money from the same individual. The defendants pleaded innocent to the additional charge.

Their Solicitor Ted McCarthy put in an objection to a Garda application for additional time while the book of evidence was being prepared. He maintained that the statutory period of 42 days had elapsed since the brothers were charged and wanted O'Donnell to strike out the charges as they were all connected.

"The delay is unreasonable," he said.

O'Donnell refused Ted McCarthy's application and the case was adjourned until the 8th of July.

There is no evidence that the tongue is connected to the brain.....

Steve Collins has praised anti gangland laws which he maintains transformed Limerick City! The Criminal Justice Amendment Act allows certain individuals to be brought before a non jury Special Criminal Court and directives on taking part in organised crime. It has been extended for another year.

I don't see a transformation?!?!? If anything I think matters in general have escalated....

"There's been a huge push of in-your-face policing by the gardai and gangs are starting to break up, and it's all down to the fact they have these powers now," he said.

I still don't see it,??!?

"These are strong laws and they are going to prove to be the turning point in this gangland problem."

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern said 69 people have been arrested under the provisions since its introduction.

67 convicted criminals are due to be released from Limerick Prison because of ongoing overcrowding problems. Nothing new there eh!

The norm lately is that they release em after two days *cough*..

According to Tadgh O'Riordan, the Governor of Limerick Prison, the problem has escalated to such an extent that they are running out of inmates that are actually eligible for temporary release. (Christ I couldn't make this up even if I wanted to!). So what criteria deems an inmate eligible for temporary release eh? something like 80, 90 or even a 100 plus convictions maybe! Capacity at Limerick Prison stands at 290 and this was exceeded by 19.

Then we have this floozy complaining about lack of privacy in Limerick Women's Prison! Lack of effin privacy mind you. It's causing difficulties.

Infamous Five loose Kieran Keane murder case appeals.....

Anthony McCarthy, David Stanners, Christopher Costello, Dessie Dundon and James McCarthy convicted of murdering Kieran Keane, who was shot in an execution style killing with his hands tied behind his back and tortured, and the attempted murder of Owen Treacy, Keane's nephew in January 2003, lost their appeal today to take their case to the Supreme Court, under Section 29 of the Courts of Justice Act 1924, in the Court of Criminal Appeal. They wanted clarification on a number of points i.e. the failure of the trial judge to adjourn the trial in light of “excessive and prejudicial” media coverage, and issues in relation to the jury, to enable them pursue an appeal to the Supreme Court.

They were refused their appeal on the grounds that they did not raise points of law of "exceptional public importance".

The famous five *cough* were not present in court due to their agressive behaviour in 2007 when judgements were thrown at the Judge, when their appeal against their murder convictions was turned down. Justice Nial Fennelly, Justice Elizabeth Dunne and Justice Brian McGovern maintained they were “satisfied none” of the applicants “had been able” to identify a point of law of exceptional public importance.

The court was told that there was “significant media intrusion”, and the image of a “two-fingered gesture” which appeared in the media was cited before their case, as well as discussions of issues surrounding the case on the Late Late Show. It was presented to the court that the trial Judge at the time should have discharged the jury when it emerged that an employee of An Garda Siochana was on the jury. It turns out that this person is from Limerick and working as a Garda in Dubln...... and that's where my 'but' comes in! :)

The court said it was “not in dispute” that the trial attracted “enormous public interest and widespread press coverage” but rejected the argument that the fade factor should have applied and the trial adjourned. It was ruled that the trial Judge had “conducted the trial correctly”. It was also ruled that “no identifiable” point of exceptional public importance raised in respect of jury matters.

Think of my 'but' as a rubix cube! Countless twists and turns, but when you get it right, it looks perfect no matter what way you look at it....

Hanora Ryan admitted to having quantities of cannabis grass and resin in her bedroom wardrobe at her home in Pallasgreen, Co. Limerick (over €60,000.00 worth of drugs). She was given a suspended sentence and avoided a jail sentence carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years, because it seems, a Detective Garda Michael Reidy from Bruff was 'taken aback' when he heard that Hanora could possibly be involved. It was presented to the Judge that she was the most unlikely person to end up before the court.

'It was a case of blind loyalty to the person who was well known to her," he said.

Gardai were apparently investigating an individual who asked Hanora to store the drugs for a couple of days. After receiving confidential information the Gardai obtained a warrant and conducted a search on her home.

Judge Carroll Moran said it was a most exceptional case and imposed a four year sentence and suspended it for four years!

So, like, what is exceptional about it? She was caught red handed right?

Gardai from Roxboro Garda Station, yet again raided the ole Shebeen in Lilac Court shortly after 1a.m. on Saturday moring, to find four individuals supping a few bevvies. No arrests, but as usual quantities of alcohol were seized (€150). They also took away a metal door at the back of the house that was apparently used to access the premises! Kelly was ordered to shut down said Shebeen located at the back of his house last year. The Shebeen is fully equiped with bar stools, fridge and TV.
I think the local fuzz need a crack course on how to prioritise! Seems they have no problem is dragging their heals when it comes to a murder case, wherein local Solicitor Sarah Ryan described the State’s case against John Coughlan, Moyross, charged with the murder of Daniel Treacy, as “a farce,” was again having difficulties understanding their position at the District Court.

She said it was “nonsense,” that the State had six weeks without progress in the case.

Members of the ERU and Regional Support Unit were involved in a high speed chase in the vicinity of Drombanna, Ballyneety, Co. Limerick, earlier today. It is alleged that they foiled a suspected revenge gangland attack, after they finally rammed the suspect car off the road. A firearm and a quantity of ammunition were seized and four individuals in their 20's (one female, three males) arrested. During the fracas, a member of the ERU was injured. He received facial injuries, after being hit by the car door, and was taken to the Regional Hospital, Limerick. Two suspects received superficial injuries.

The Garda Siochana Ombudsman are investigating and the incident was referred by the Garda Commissioner under Section 102 of the Garda Siochana Act 2006.

It is alleged the McCarthy Dundon gang were planning a revenge attack on one of their rivals following a shooting incident on Monday...

Passers by were shocked to see weapons(guns) produced and drawn and onlookers were told to take cover and stay behind their vehicles as the ERU ordered the occupants out of the car and to put their hands up.

Michael Considine, St. Mary's Park, was before Judge O'Donnell charged with breaching the Public Order Act following an altercation with a member of the Garda Siochana on Nicholas Street back in January. Considine has 27 previous convictions. O'Donnell sentenced him to two months in prison, following his refusal to apologise to the court and take to the witness box, along with his extensive use of profanities and calling said Garda a 'muppet in a uniform'!

Considine was cycling along Nicholas Street when Garda Manton, whilst driving a patrol car, came just a little to close for comfort, i.e. according to Considine. Words were apparently exchanged and Garda Manton in turn arrested Considine. Considine's Solicitor, Ted McCarthy, said that his client Considine had apologised for the altercation, and the fact that the case was brought before the District Court. During a brief stand, it was understood that Considine would take to the witness box but instead sat in the public gallery and refused to do so. O'Donnell then sentenced Considine to two months in prison because he didn't avail of the opportunity to publically apologise.

That was a great number, I've always liked pantomime...

Gardai have apparently tipped off the British police that Wayne Dundon has taken flight to Britain in recent days with his wife and kids to 'avoid' heavy Garda surveillance. (well the ole Garda chickeloni couldn't be paying that much attenention to him eh, considering that most of their resources have gone into raiding brothels in recent weeks and months!).

Gardai maintain the constant 'in your face' surveillance was getting to much for Wayne and that he was cracking up. Wayne on the other hand maintains that he was being harassed by the Gardai. I think the only ones cracking up are the Gardai eh, he's driving them 'cuckoo' with all the farting around and media hype!

It shall never be said, whilst I am bailiff of Southampton, that any waster, riever, draw-latch or murtherer came scathless away from me and my posse.

Niall Collins, TD, defends gun crime record! (this is the same ejit that called on Commissioner Murphy to get rid of Boyce, insisting that the GRA need to apologise to the Irish people following the nixers debacle )

He maintains that the overall reduction in reported crime is evidence enough that the Gardai have enough resources to deal with same, and that tougher legislation has helped with reduction in crime rates! Tougher legislation?!? (hang on whilst I pick my bod up off the gawd damn floor!) The judiciary are not utilising the laws already in existence for years, not to mind so called 'other legislation'. They haven't even touched on that yet! What a load of compost! and as I've said before.... denial aint just a river in Egypt!

His comments are in response to a report issued recently by Dr. Liz Campbell, (she studied as a Government of Ireland Scholar at UCC) Academic at Aberdeen University . She believes that more Gardai are needed to patrol the streets, particularly in Limerick and Dublin. The report stated that Limerick needs more Gardai on the streets to tackle gun crime. Her findings 'Responding to Gun Crime', published in the Brisish Journal of Criminalogy. She has written quite a bit on the criminal justice process.

Wayne Dundon managed to stop traffic in the vicinity of the People's Park, Limerick, on Saturday with the, er, lavish?! horse drawn cinderella carriage laid on for his daughter's first Holy Communion. He boldly posed for photographs (wearing a pink shirt, colour coordinated!) with his family, admist onlookers and gathering papparazzi. The whole affair would have cost in the region of €8,000. Not short a a few bob now is he? Jazus life on the dole is a hooley by the looks of it!

His brother Dessie is brewing up a storm since his transition to the Joy earlier this year. The drugs business is booming, apparently, since he moved in!

"In the days after he arrived at the prison, the volumes of drugs being thrown over the wall and into the yard jumped dramatically,"

Kenneth Dundon, father of said crtiminals *cough* (the ole apples don't fall far from the tree, do they!), stuck his head in and showed face at his grandchild's communion (recently released from UK prison).

And, admidst all that... Wayne lodged a complaint to Gardai in relation to an interview Steve Collins gave to Donal McIntyre, aired on TV3 last year. Wayne felt 'threatened' and subsequently, Gardai hauled Steve Collins in for questioning to Henry Street Garda Station. Looks like he is using 'reverse psychology' of the law!

In Crime Capitals, Donal McIntyre showed Mr Collins a YouTube clip in which John Dundon and Nathan Killeen, leading members of the McCarthy-Dundon gang, appeared to mock the Collins family. When Mr Collins was asked what he would do if his family was attacked again, he allegedly replied that he would do the same to them, eliciting Wayne Dundon's complaint (Limerick Leader)

Then we have the likes of Mayor Kevin Kiely calling for CAB/Government to investigate where the moola came from in the first instance! I mean, come on! Duh! It doesn't take a genius to figure that one out, like! :)

A young Limerick man alleges he was shot at by the ERU last week. What is strange about this story is that he claims a plain clothes member of the unit emerged from bushes wearing a hoodie and brandishing a gun in a threatening manner (now that's not leading a good example to all the hooded scumbags in Limerick now is it?!?) :o> and then fired at him when he started to run. He was subsequently arrested and brought to Roxboro Garda Station and released a short time later. There was no indication from the individual that emerged from the bushes that they were indeed a member of the Gardai.

“He thought that his life was in danger so he ran away from what he thought was a gunman”.

According to Roxboro Garda Station there is an incident under investigation and the Garda ombudsman have been informed.

Willie O is hoping that once his name is cleared , as part of an ongoing and extensive Garda Investigation (and I use the words 'ongoing' and 'extensive' loosely!) he will return and serve at the cabinet.

In an interview on Limerick's Live 95FM he stated that if his name is cleared, he would have "every prospect" of returning to senior office.

"At the end of the day, if it emerges as a result of the enquiry that is being carried on that I did nothing wrong, I'd have every prospect of returning I would suspect and I would be working very hard in that direction."

The investigation began following a complaint that Willie O made a false affidavit, which led to the whole brothel debacle.

The Garda investigation involves a statement made by Willie O that he received false info from a Garda. A short time later he seemed to suffer from a bout of STML (short term memory loss!) in that he could not remember the name of the Garda that gave him the, er, wrong information! A short story is always a disclosure !

Could it be a case of if he doesn't remember the name of the Garda, the Garda investigating will clear his name? He needs them all the same, doesn't he?

I'd like to know the name of that Garda, wouldn't you?

Corruption is like a ball of snow, once it's set a rolling it must increase.

At last night's GRA Conference in Limerick, PJ Stone, General Secretary, Garda Representative Association (GRA) advised that Gardai who are struggling to pay debts 'could' be vulnerable to corruption ! He stated that international experience has shown that low paid forces are susceptible to 'being got at'. He warned that Gardai who are not being paid enough are at risk of becoming corrupt.

Cash strapped Gardai want to overturn current regulations banning them from taking part time jobs.... Nixers !

"There is always the likelihood - and it has been proved in other countries where you pay police forces at a rate of pay that puts them in a vulnerable place - that there is a risk of people being got at and that's a fact of life," he said

You can't squeeze them on the one hand, where they're not in a position to pay their debts, and then on the other side of that introduce a strict discipline code which could effectively mean they might lose their jobs as a result of that difficulty," said Mr Stone.

If it's a case that some financially strapped Gardai can be 'got at' , then get rid of them, they shouldn't be in the force in the first place, right!

The Garda Ombudsman have confirmed that they will be conducting an investigation after the death of John Nevin, Templemore, who died whilst in custody on Saturday. They confirmed that Mr. Nevin was taken into custody and later became unwell and was taken to Nenagh Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death is yet to be released. A post mortem is to be conducted at Limerick Regional Hospital.

His family have expressed concern surrounding the circumstances of this death and said they 'will not rest until the full truth is revealed'

Apparently Mr. Nevin suffered from mental illness and had been hospitalised on a number of occasions in relation to same. His family called the Gardai after he became agitated on Saturday. His family wanted him taken to hospital. What arrived was a 'special team' from LIMERICK allegedly armed with stun guns, and 'manhandled' Mr. Nevin into a squad car. It is alleged that Mr. Nevin received an injury to his forehead before he was taken away by the Gardai.

This is the second incident of a death in Garda custody in recent days. The Garda Ombudsman are also investigating the death of a man whilst in custody in Tallaght Garda station last week.

Seems a bit excessive if not extreme to send a special team ALL THE WAY from Limerick. Sure isn't Templemore 'the home of the Gardai' like!?!?

The Templemore mentality eh :) they believe that they are a breed apart from the rest of society and subject to different modes of behaviour from the rest of us.

A motion that is to be put forward at the Annual Conference Annual Conference starting this evening in Limerick, states that the Gardai should be allowed to work as barmen and security guards when they are off duty. The GRA say that a vast majority of rank and file members are experiencing 'serious financial difficulties'. Delegates will also be demanding reversal of pay cuts and pension levies. Well crikey, we wouldn't want them pawning off their uniforms to any ole criminal gang now would we :)

Nine men in their 20's and 30's were arreseted this morning in Limerick, suspected of links to organised crime with seven held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be detained for up to a period of seven days. One under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, and one under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, in order to 'curb' gang related activity.

Apparently up to 100 Gardai and the ERU, including officers from the Nation Bureau of Criminal Investigation were involved in this so called 'pre planned operation'. Sure, aren't all their operations 'pre planned'?!?

Nothing recovered but gardai said searches would continue throughout the day.

"It was a planned operation under the new legislation to deal with criminal gangs, so it's probably one of the first of its kind in the country," Chief Superintendent David Sheahan told the Limerick Leader.

"It's a major offensive against serious criminal activity in the city".

Nothing recovered - well considering those involved in crime knew that they would be coming, considering ALL the publicity in the media in recent weeks, about a so called clamp down on crime! Forewarned is forearmed eh!

Some of Irelands most notorious criminals are offering the Gardai €30,000 for uniforms! apparently so they can be used against gangland rivals.

Senior sources within An Garda Siochana have confirmed that they are aware that some of Ireland's most vicious criminal gangs, -- including the Dundon-McCarthy group and several of the leading gangs in Dublin -- have sought to exploit the discontent in the Force over recent pay cuts by offering cash lump sums in exchange for uniforms.
It is known that new young gardai in Dublin and in other cities like Limerick, Cork and Galway have been approached in recent weeks by gang members, who have informed them of their cash offers ranging between €10,000 and €30,000 for full uniforms.

One Senior Garda was quoted as saying

"We are aware of the unhappiness over pay among the rank-and-file, but any co-operation with these gangs is a most serious offence. I have heard about these offers of money for uniforms,"

Last Month at the GRA conference uniform security was on the agenda. One proposal was the introduction of legislation preventing other workers, i.e.security staff, from mimicking garda uniforms, equipment and transport.

Stephen Reilly from Athlone was charged at Mullingar Court with threatening to kill and rape Leanne Collins, daughter of Steve Collins and sister of the late Roy Collins. He threatened to slit her throat and rape her. Leanne is a student in Athlone.

Judge David Anderson was told Ms Collins and her boyfriend had been walking in Beech Park, Athlone when Mr Reilly, who was the backseat passenger in a car which pulled up beside the couple, jumped out allegedly wielding a hammer and told them they were “fucking dead”.
He then chased Ms Collins’s boyfriend and took a bag which he dropped containing a new pair of Nike runners, a T-shirt and a pair of shorts valued at €180, the detective garda said. He said Mr Reilly then pointed at Ms Collins and warned her not to telephone the gardaí. The threatening phone call was made to Ms Collins later when Mr Reilly warned her again not to contact gardaí and told her he was going to kill her, he said.

It is also alleged that he threatened to have Wayne Dundon sort her out.

Bail was refused and he is due before Cloverhill District Court on April 22nd.

A hat trick..

On the 13th of March Mary Ryan O'Brien of Sharwood Estate, Newcastlewest (also the habitat of John Ryan, an individual with over 80 convictions ranging from public order offenses to knife possession!) AND of Ballinacurra, Weston (habitat of Darren Hehir who is currently in prison for firearm offenses. His brother Joe and Ger Dundon were involved in a tail gating expedition earlier this year!) was arrested in Galway not once, not twice! but three times!!!! for shoplifting over €1,700 worth of goods from Tesco, cosmetics from a pharmacy and theft from Debenhams. (the gardai obviously didn't detain her that long on each arrest eh!).

Her Solicitor made a plea that she was on medication and that her hubby was killed in a crash back in 2009. She has over 180 previous convictions dating back to 2002. She gets around eh! Excuses her legal advisors have made over time - she needed clothes, a young mother of two, fell on hard times etc....

In January 2009 she was questioned in relation to the theft of €760 worth of cosmetics from a pharmacy in Newcastlewest and yet again, a short time later, within minutes apparently after being released, she stole from a local petrol station! All this happened while she was on 'temporary release' from prison! She was supposed to be serving a couple of months in prison for theft in 2008. The excuse presented at that time was drugs, under the influence and all that.... In April 2009 she was sentenced to six months in prison. In May 2009 she was charged with being a passenger in a stolen car.

In November 2009 she was charged with theft of €462 worth of goods from a pharmacy in Dooradoyle, Limerick. The excuse this time as that she was not stealing for her own use, but to 'move on' and 'support herself'. O'Donnell sentenced her to ten months, suspended for two years.

Christ, isn't the judicial system gone way beyond a joke!

Pamela Hickey of Ashford, Patrickswell, has been charged with operating and obtaining a service by deception in relation to chartering flights through Monarch Airlines, from Shannon to Gatwick. She falsely secured flights for Munster games/Munster rugby fans dating back to September 2004/2005. A Detective Garda Margaret Nagle and Garda Thomas Kilfeather charged her. One might remember Margaret Nagle from her brothel raiding a while back

She was also charged with creating false documents under Section 25 of the Criminal Justice Theft and Fraud Offenses. Her reply to the charges... 'Yes, it's true". A book of evidence is due before the court on Tuesday the 1st of June 2010.

Back in 2003 she was fined €1,000.00 plus €500.00 costs for organising a rugby trip to France without a licence. She pleaded guilty to illegal tour operating. At the time she ran a creche in Limerick and sold rugby packages under the name of 'Munster Sporting Club' from said creche. She also organised a Rugby trip to Rome which left over 300 fans stranded at Shannon Airport. The chartered company Brittania Airways cancelled the flight because it claimed payment had been received.
Her Solicitor at that time, Pat Barriscale said Pamela Hickey did not make any profit out of the Munster flights, but operated them to enable the best supporters in the Heineken Cup to travel to support their team.

As she left the court in 2003, Hickey was greeted by Munster fans who sat in the public gallery.

Wayne Dundon has some neck

Convicted criminal Wayne, who was recently released from prison is claiming that he is being harassed by the Gardai in Limerick. The Gardai have declined to comment (as is the norm *cough*). If true, he wouldn't be the first person, convicted criminal or otherwise, to become a victim of Garda harassment. I'm inclined, in this instance, to believe that the Gardai are carrying out some form of intimidation. They can't get to him any other way! And, sadly, that's how the Gardai generally role! Let's wait and see what the Gardai will do next. If indeed he has made a formal complaint, then they will undoubtedly retaliate in some way. Maybe there is an arrest on the way.....

And it's not the first time Wayne he has complained about something either..... ..

He has always denied any involvement in the murder of Limerick businessman Roy Collins and denied any involvement in organised crime in Limerick and denied Garda claims that he is one of the most violent criminals in Limerick.

He lodged a complaint to the Press Ombudsman last year about reports linking him to the murder, on grounds of breaches of the code of practice (truth and accuracy, distinguishing fact and comment, fairness and honesty, respect for rights including the right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence, and incitement to hatred against Dundon and his family).

"Just because the guards say I'm involved in something does that make it true. The sort of allegations that have been written about me, I've never been charged or arrested for any of them or brought to court for them," .

"I'm not an angel, I've never said that. But I've just done five-and-a-half years, why can't I be left alone? There is more proof that aliens exist than there is for some of the things I'm meant to have done."

His Solicitor (Peter Madden) maintained that certain press and media convicted him without trial or sufficient evidence and stated that Dundon was in prison at the time the murder occurred and that Gardai had not approached him regarding the murder or charged him. In his statement at the time, Peter Madden said the allegations 'carried no weight'.

Commissioner Murphy has 'shot down' ASGIs (Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors) request to have armed Gardai 24/7. The Commissioner has always maintained that An Garda Siochana will remain an unarmed police force for as long as he is Commissioner. ASGI want Regional Support Units (RSU) armed around the clock on a full time basis to counteract increase in armed violence ("health and safety considerations for all members") . They made their feelings known at an annual conference (while some would say the annual 'shin dig knees up'). Held over three days in the Radisson Hotel in Galway. At present, they stay in uniform patrol until called to a serious/critical incident, then change into 'tactical dress' and whip out weapons from the boot of their vehicle, into RSU mode.

However, it was just a while ago that Joe Dirwan General Secretary ASGI voiced concern over the whole RSU project!!! At the time he said of the new system "blurs the traditional ethos of the unarmed, uniformed gardaí, which has served this country so well", but they then agreed to partake in the pilot programme.

Dessie Dundon was transfered from Wheatfield Prison to Mountjoy on Sunday evening. Did he get the bums rush on his arrival,considering the ongoing problem with overcrowding? Nah, instead he got the VIP treatment! Very Important Prisoner like!

Severe overcrowding left other inmates sleeping on matresses on a hard floor in the reception area, while Dessie was enjoying the comforts of his own cell just a few feet away. Dundon is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Kieran Keane in 2003.

Dermot Ahern put it down to 'prison service matters'. The prison service issued a statement on overcrowding but couldn't comment on Dessie's situation...

His brother Ger was arrested recently for tail gating an empty prison van from Wheatfield Prison. Gardai believed it to be a dry run for a jail break. His other brother Wayne recently released from prison had a bit of a 'hiccup' whilst planning a short getaway to Mexico.

Liam 'Baby' Kelly and Robert Crawford convicted of burglary at Newcastlewest Autos.

Baby is the brother of Aidan Kelly who was shot dead in 2006.

Baby has been around the block a bit...

In 2007 he was sentenced to three months for failing to stop for the Gardai , he was shot at three times, and was involved in a bit of a fracas and accused of shooting Ian Brennan. He went forward for trial in 2008 in relation to the Brennan incident, for possession of a shotgun and attempt to endanger life. It was alleged Baby and Brennan argued over a girl, Baby's girlfriend (Leanne Campbell McNamara) , who was seemingly involved with both of them. Brennan gave evidence to say he was shot in the back and in the stomach by Baby. Not the first time there was an attempt on Brennan's life .

Ian Brennan had been out socialising with his friends Philip Collopy and Brian Scanlon. Brennan said he was 110% certain it was Baby. The jury failed to reach a verdict after three days and in 2009 he was up before the court again. Philip Collopy gave evidence stating ' sure I get shot at every week". Collopy, Brennan's friend stated the g unman's face was covered. Baby was acquitted. Collopy accidentally shot himself a couple of months later.

Recent events in Molesworth Street (Passport dispute) have put a kibosh on a two week getaway to Mexico for Wayne Dundon, who was recently released from Wheatfield Prison, after serving a five year prison sentence for threating to kill Ryan Lee (Bar Man) a couple of years back. It's reported that Steve Collins observed him walking out of Roxboro Garda Station on Monday as brazen as brass like! after requesting a passport application form.

Meanwhile..

The Joint Policing Committee have appealed for more Gardai in the City........ this is after a declaration two weeks ago that crime stats were down! Additional Gardai need to be deployed.

This is following on from the attemped murder of Paul Coffey (He used to be a big shot!no pun intended!).   He was shot at on Michael Street on Sunday evening. He escaped uninjured.

In a NUT shell..

Coffey, In 2003 whilst on trial for the murder of Eddie Ryan in the Moose Bar in 2000 allegedly named (or I should state, the Gardai alleged) Kieran Keane (now deceased) as one of the two gunmen involved in the murder of Eddie Ryan. The other, Philip Collopy now also deceased. Ryan was shot eleven times. Coffey alleged that he was offered a deal if he turned state witness, which was emphatically denied by the Gardai at the time. Coffey also alleged he was assaulted during his detention. Coffey admitted driving the getaway car.   Ryan tried to kill Christy Keane a couple of days earlier, but his gun jammed. He is the only individual to have been charged in relation to the murder (spanning over a decade).

Coffey was sentenceed to 15 years with seven suspended. The Judge took into account Coffey's Counsel's defence that he had a low IQ.......

Coffey's prison detention has been flowered with events! Mobile phones found in his possession and face slashed, he was back in court in 2008 and yet released just recently in 2010, causing a bit of controversy.

You're supposed to hold down the hijack button to enter a taxi... well in grand theft auto at least!

Robert McNamara of St. Patrick’s Park, Carrick on Shannon was arrested in Leitrim in connection with the hijacking of a taxi on the 8th of March 2010. Mac took a taxi from Carrick on Shannon to Roscommon and then insisted the taxi driver take him to Limerick. After the driver refused Mac then produced a knife (allegedly). A couple of hours later, in the wee hours of the morning they arrived in Limerick. After he stole the driver's car keys and mobile phone and a small amount of cash he made his getaway. He was picked up by a female soon aterwards.

Mac the knife has a bit of a history...including producing a knife from his nether regions while answering some questions and filling out forms in Roxboro some years back (2002) (the ejit actually stabbed himself! but not before sticking his fist through a window first!)

Limerick crime down by 33% in 2010.

The Joint Policing Committee, who meet every two months were told that there was a 'significant' *cough, splutter, cough* drop in crime, possibly due to the recent bad weather *falls over laughing*. This could have had a bearing on the overall figure because like,............... people stay indoors rather than venture out in that bad weather!

According to John Gilligan (former Mayor of Limerick) these statistics/figures should be stuck up in lights and highlighted in the media!

John Devane has brought a Civil Case to the High Court. He alleges he was falsely accused and badly treated by two members of An Garda Siochana in Limerick, over a decade ago. Garda Inspector Seamus Nolan and now *cough* suddenly retired Chief Super Gerard Mahon. They accused him of sexual assault on a special needs student. He described the allegation as a witch hunt. He alleges he was slandered and detained unlawfully (now that wouldn't be a first with the Gardai in Limerick). Lets see how this fans out. If he wins this case, I'll eat my hat. These boys in blue schtick together like glue.

Ger Dundon was caught tail gating a prison van, along with his partner in crime, Joe Hehir. Hehir is having a bit of a fling with Dundon's sister Annabell. Ger just rececently out of prison for driving offences. Both were arrested. But why were they following an emply prison vehicle? Their motive maybe.....practice make perfect! The Gardai believe it to be a 'dry run' for a jail break. They followed the van from Wheatfield Prison.

Dundon's brothers Dessie Dundon and Wayne Dundon are currently serving what are supposed to be 'lenghty' sentences. Lenghty my ass, Wayne is due for early release soon. Wayne serving a sentence for threatening to kill a barman who refused to serve his 14 year old sister at the time. Dessie a life sentence for the murder of Kieran Keane

The two were arrested and released without charge. Now if that were just any ordinary joe soap, they'd be locked away for a week!
